California citrus cornucopia

Bi-Rite has an irresistible citrus display right now.

Citrus cornucopia

Clockwise from the one you all recognize: lime, navel orange (also available in a pink-fleshed variety), Bergamot sour orange, Minneola tangelo, Little Wonder Kishu mandarins, and, in the center, sweet lime.

We had leftover pizza from Arizmendi (a work perk) and a citrus, avocado, and fennel salad for dinner last night. The citrus included the pink navel, a tangelo, and a sweet lime, with a sour lime juice dressing.

What else do you do with sweet lime? I almost accidentally bought one yesterday when I was looking for a lemon to roast with my chicken. Later I wondered if it would have been an awesome accident.

The one we had was a little bland, like a lemon but lacking much of its tartness. The juice is also supposed to be good to drink (have you seen The Darjeeling Limited?). Salad dressing could work, too. I’ll let you know what we do with the others.

Love all this citrus! I used to love Arizmendi too when I would visit my brother and order their pizzas, cinnamon buns and all the rest of it

    That salad sounds familiar!

I have totally fallen in love with California citrus.
